Mark Beeney, the Leeds United reserve goalkeeper, has been forced to retire beacuse of injury. The 31-year-old snapped his Achilles in a reserve game earlier this season and, although he underwent surgery, the repaired injury became infected and snapped again. Beeney joined Leeds from Brighton in 1993 and made 35 first-team appearances.

Liverpool have taken the 24-year-old Austrian international midfielder Martin Amerhauser on a week's trial from SV Salsburg.
