ROBERT MILLAR, of Scotland, and the Netherland's Gert-Jan Theunisse, have been left out of the TVM Tour de France team. The 35-year-old Glasgow-born Millar, a climbing specialist, came fourth in the event in 1985. Theunisse, who finished fourth in the Tour four years ago, had hoped to be selected after coming second in the Dutch championships at the weekend behind his team- mate Steven Rooks.

ANDY HAMPSTEN, of the United States, who came fourth in 1987 and 1992, will miss the Tour de France after injuring his knee in a fall during training with the Motorola team last week. Motorola have confimed that Sean Yates will start as will the Australian Phil Anderson and Alvaro Mejia, of Colombia.

MIGUEL INDURAIN'S Spanish team Banesto confirmed that Pedro Delgado, the winner in 1988, will not be in their Tour de France line-up. Delgado, who also won the Tour of Spain in 1985 and 1989, retires at the end of the season and asked to be left out.
