PETER KIRSTEN, the former Derbyshire and Western Province batsman, made the highest first-class score of his 20-year career with 271 for his new team, Border, yesterday. The captain and opener batted for 10 hours 40 minutes, faced 534 deliveries and struck 22 boundaries as his team made 475 for 4 declared in reply to Northern Transvaal's 146 in a four-day Castle Cup match in South Africa. His previous best was 228 for Derbyshire against Somerset in 1981.

WARWICKSHIRE, the NatWest Trophy winners, have announced a profit of pounds 289,024 for last year. It was up from pounds 99,523 in 1992.
