Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Following a recent spate of public incidents involving drunken Australian rugby league players, Australia's Olympic team have been issued with a strict code of conduct. Athletes will be banned from drinking alcohol without authorisation, told to be "honest in their answers" to the media and conscious of autograph requests. Breaching the disciplinary code, (which also refers to conduct within team accommodation, Olympic venues, public behaviour and use of team uniform) could result in termination of team membership, expulsion from competition and financial penalties.
Kenya's Laban Chege won the City to Surf race through the streets of Sydney's Olympic city yesterday. Chege, 31, completed the 14km circuit from the centre of Sydney to Bondi Beach in 40min 27sec, 24 seconds outside Australian Steve Moneghetti's race record. The Australians, Darren Wilson (41:15) and Dean Cavuoto (41:28) finished second and third respectively. The women's event was won by Australia's Kylie Risk in a time of 46:25.
