The World League, in which the Monarchs compete, resumes in the spring after an absence of two years. Hammond, 42, is a former running back who played five seasons for the New York Giants and Washington Redskins from 1976-80.
Erik Williams, the Dallas Cowboys' All- Pro offensive tackle, may be out for the rest of the season after sustaining numerous injuries in a car accident on Monday. Williams suffered a torn medial collateral ligament in his right knee, a torn posterior cruciate ligament and a torn popliteal muscle.
