Warwickshire agreed to his request to be released from the last year of his contract after 15 seasons at Edgbaston. Lloyd, appointed captain in 1988, led Warwickshire to the NatWest Trophy in his second season and guided them to second place in the 1991 County Championship.

JAVED MIANDAD scored an unbeaten 86 to steer Pakistan to a seven-wicket victory over Zimbabwe in their one-day international in Harare yesterday. The world champions cruised to a winning 165 for 3 with 16 balls remaining of their 50 overs. Zimbabwe, sent in after losing the toss, were dismissed for 164.
