Snooker: Hendry shows no mercy
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Scotland's Stephen Hendry stayed on course for a record-breaking fourth Skoda Grand Prix title in Derby yesterday. The 25-year-old world champion became the first player to reach the quarter-finals of the pounds 325,000 tournament with a 77-minute 5-0 whitewash of the Englishman Rod Lawler. Hendry fired a superb 133 second-frame clearance to take the lead for the highest break prize of pounds 2,400. With Lawler still reeling from a 4-0 deficit at the interval, Hendry racked up a break of 95 to finish off the match. 'Rod started off potting some incredible balls,' Hendry said. 'But when I got the 133 that knocked him back a bit.' Hendry now faces the Dubai Classic winner Alan McManus or England's Dave Harold next Thursday for a place in the semi-finals.
