However, Britain's Nick Faldo completed a miserable tournament with a 67 to finish on a one-under-par aggregate of 283, while David Feherty was four shots better off after a final round of 71.
Singh, who has been involved in four play-offs during his career and won them all, was forced into the sudden-death climax by tying with Mayfair after the pair shot five under par rounds of 66 to finish on 15 under - two shots clear of the overnight leader, Ben Crenshaw.
However, Singh cut the play-off short by sinking a two-foot par putt on the first hole, after Mayfair missed his putt, to seal victory.
"In a play-off you can play more aggressively than normal because you know you've secured second place and no one can take that from you," Singh said. "You're just playing for first."
