Scottish Football: Durie set to make Rangers debut

GORDON DURIE is set to make his debut for Rangers when they travel to Patrick Thistle. The pounds 1.2m signing from Tottenham goes straight into the team because Ally McCoist is still out with a calf injury, and Trevor Steven will also be missing.

The Scottish League has placed referees on standby as the weather threatens to hit the programme but the game at Firhill, as well as Celtic's home match against Raith Rovers, is almost certain to go ahead because of undersoil heating. Elsewhere, referees will be asked to make pitch inspections this morning.

Celtic are likely to include their new signing, Wayne Biggins, again after he played 13 minutes against Motherwell in midweek.

Dundee's ground staff have been clearing their pitch, which had five inches of snow laying on it, to save the derby against Dundee United.

St Johnstone have had even more snow but are hopeful of playing Kilmarnock in the first home game under the new manager Paul Sturrock.

Aberdeen, who also have undersoil heating, are hopeful that their game with Hibs will go ahead.

Brechin's First Division game against Clyde has been postponed and will be played on Tuesday.
