From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Durham pulled off the comeback of the day as Mark Saxelby's 80 not out helped them to an astonishing 50-run victory over Leicestershire at Stockton.
Durham had been reduced to 39 for 6 but Saxelby put on 69 for the last wicket with Simon Brown to help them reach 165. Leicestershire looked to be cruising at 52 for 1, but after the dismissal of the South African captain Hansie Cronje they tumbled to 115 all out.
Steve James emerged the hero as Glamorgan celebrated their first success in the competition on Essex soil with a 28-run victory at Chelmsford. The opener laid the victory foundations with a fine 82 in Glamorgan's 277 for 7. Essex's new captain, Paul Pritchard, made 92 in reply but it was not enough.
The Pakistan leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed destroyed Sussex with 4 for 29 to guide Somerset to a 54-run triumph at Taunton, while the debutant Andrew Symonds, the 19-year-old dual-national who hit a century for Queensland against England during the winter, blasted 95 from just 70 balls as Gloucestershire crushed the Combined Universities by 126 runs at Bristol.
At Leek, Lancashire cruised to a nine-wicket victory after dismissing the Minor Counties for 71; it was a similar story at the Oval as Surrey won by eight wickets after Mark Kenlock took 5 for 15 to help dismiss Ireland for 80; and last season's runners-up Worcestershire trounced Scotland by 10 wickets at New Road.
