From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Wasps cited the France flanker Serge Betsen last night for an alleged incident in the Heineken Cup Pool One match against Biarritz at the weekend which led to their centre Stuart Abbott suffering a broken leg.
The citing documents have been handed to an independent citing officer, who will decide if there whether a case to answer. If Betsen were found guilty, it could mean him missing all or part of the Six Nations. Wasps admitted they were aware that one of their players, the replacement prop Tim Payne, could also be cited for an alleged stamp on the Biarritz captain Thomas Lièvremont.
Abbott, who had just recovered from a shoulder injury that kept him out of the autumn internationals, will be in plaster for 12 weeks and will miss the rest of the season, according to a Wasps statement.
The England head coach Andy Robinson, who yesterday announced that Jason Robinson would continue as stand-in captain for Jonny Wilkinson for the opening Six Nations match against Wales in Cardiff, said: "This must be very upsetting for Stuart. To suffer another injury is very bad luck. He is a talented player, who could have played a part."
Robinson has added two more players to his training squad, calling up Gloucester's No 8 Adam Balding and the Leicester fly-half Andy Goode to the 42-man party at Headingley.
A scan on the Wales flanker Colin Charvis' right foot has revealed only soft-tissue damage, which suggests he should be fit for the Six Nations, but he sees the Welsh medical team today for a prognosis.
France will definitely be without Olivier Magne, who also has an injured right foot, for the campaign's opening match.
