Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The defeat ends the All Blacks' winning run at 15, two short of the record set by Colin Meads's New Zealanders in 1966-69 and equalled by the 1998 Springboks.
An interception try from the home side's Bryan Habana and a short-range score from Daniel Carter for the visitors contributed to a 13-13 half-time scoreline, Pretorius and Carter kicking a conversion and two penalties each. The South Africa flanker Pedrie Wannenburg scored a try in the 55th minute, Pretorius failing with the conversion, and Carter converted Joe Rokocoko's try 11 minutes later to put the All Blacks on course for a narrow victory. A ruck offence from the No 8 Rodney So'oialo two minutes from full-time, however, gave Pretorius his chance.
South Africa conclude the tournament - New Zealand having secured the title two weeks ago - next week, against Australia in Johannesburg.
In the Magners League the Ospreys beat Edinburgh 17-11 at the Liberty Stadium. Lee Byrne scored the home side's try and James Hook kicked four penalties. Simon Webster scored Edinburgh's try and Chris Paterson kicked two penalties.
The champions, Ulster, beat the Llanelli Scarlets 31-16 at Ravenhill. David Humphreys, Paul Steinmetz and Mark Bartholomeusz scored Ulster's tries, Humphreys kicking 16 points. Stephen Jones kicked 11 points for the Scarlets, Darren Daniel scoring a try.
