Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Chief Executive of the Rugby Football Union, John Steele, is today expected to recommend significant changes to the structure of the organisation.
Steele launched a comprehensive review of the RFU when he replaced Francis Baron in charge at Twickenham four months ago. The former UK Sport chief executive set out to strengthen the management of the RFU in preparation for hosting the 2015 World Cup and will present his plans to the management board today.
Steele's recommendations will not affect the England set-up but an RFU spokesman said "tough decisions" have been taken at executive level.
Rob Andrew's position as England's elite rugby director is one of those to have come under scrutiny. Andrew is not expected to leave but it is likely his role will be redefined. Should Steele's plan be agreed a new position in the elite department would be created, a role it is thought would suit a figure like Sir Clive Woodward, England's 2003 World Cup-winning coach, who is currently the British Olympic Association's performance director.
