From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Irish celebrity couple have completely booked Lough Rynn Castle in Leitrim from June 30 to July 4.
Due to the Gland Slam rugby star’s hectic schedule, the pair have had to engage in some military-style planning when it comes to swapping vows.
All 58 rooms available in the idyllic castle have now been booked in what promises to be a memorable bash. Brian and his Irish team-mates play their last international match of the summer on June 26 when they take on Australia in a Test. That leaves him plenty of time to jet back home to enjoy his nuptials and honeymoon.
However, don't expect to see any corny photo shoots of the happy day. The Clinic actress has shot down suggestions that they'll flog their pics to a glossy magazine.
“We're not doing any selling of photos or anything like that,” she said.
Despite his training schedule Brian has adopted a hands-on approach to planning their nuptial celebrations.
“Brian's been great, he's so into it. It's very much a mutual thing, but it's not like we spend every day talking about it,” she added.
“We're just about making it our own. It's a fantastic location with private
grounds and we can run amok. Brian has a big family so it will be a big wedding, but not monstrous.”
The couple couldn't have picked a better spot, given the secluded location in the picturesque town of Mohill.
Stretching out over 300 acres, its features include landscaped grounds, an extensive spa area and an 18-hole golf course designed by Nick Faldo.
The venue, a former home of Lord Leitrim, even offers a wedding planner.
As well as standard entertainment features such as a band and a disco, it can also offer the couple an impressive fireworks display and the hire of a carriage, as well as providing a personalised ice sculpture and a chocolate fountain for sweet-toothed attendees.
Brian and Amy have been dating since 2007 after meeting through a mutual friend. They got engaged last March just after the actress celebrated her 30th birthday and a few days after O'Driscoll marked Ireland's Grand Slam victory.
