Smith, omitted from the All Blacks side which thumped Wales 29-9 at the weekend, will start at outside centre in place of Richard Kahui, who drops out of the squad.
The 27-year-old Smith will win his 23rd cap and second start of the tour in the only change to the side.
New Zealand head coach Graham Henry has selected his strongest XV as the All Blacks attempt to complete a third successful Grand Slam tour.
Flanker Richie McCaw leads the side while Dan Carter starts at fly-half.
Henry said: "After England's loss to South Africa last weekend we know they will come out and throw everything at us.
"But the All Blacks are relishing the challenge and looking forward to the Test."

Replacements: 16-Hikawera Elliot, 17-John Afoa, 18-Anthony Boric, 19-Kieran Read, 20-Piri Weepu, 21-Stephen Donald, 22-Isaia Toeava.
