England will hope that they will still be in the mix when the Rugby World Cup arrives as Chris Robshaw’s side face a campaign defining encounter with Australia this weekend.

As the red rose suffered the narrowest of defeats to rivals Wales last Saturday, they head into the Twickenham showdown knowing victory will almost assure them of a place in the last-eight – but defeat will confirm their early exit and raise serious questions over the future of Robshaw and head coach Stuart Lancaster.

However, while Saturday may represent the biggest game seen at Twickenham in at least 24 years, an even bigger event sits on the horizon in the form of the Rugby World Cup final.

The showcase match will take place on 31 October and coincides with Halloween, with the culmination of six weeks of action set to be fright night for one unlucky side.

The final will kick-off at 4pm on the Saturday, much earlier than the 8pm kick-offs that England have had to deal with in the pool stages. Once the pool fixtures come to an end next weekend, the 8pm Twickenham game on Saturday nights will be a thing of the past, with both quarter-finals and semi-finals in south-west London due to kick-off at 4pm.

There will be two further 8pm kick-offs though, with the second quarter-final scheduled for a night-time start in Cardiff, while the third-place play-off will be held at the Olympic Stadium in London on the Friday before the final.
