From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The opening weekend of the 2015 Rugby World Cup proved to be one of the most dramatic ever seen across all eight tournaments since the inaugural competition in 1987.
While England avoided an upset and somehow managed to claim a bonus point in Friday's win over Fiji, the same could not be said of Saturday's action.
Georgia upset the odds to beat Pool C rivals Tonga in the opening game at Kingsholm, although there were no surprises in Cardiff as Ireland claimed a comprehensive 50-7 win over Canada at the Millennium Stadium.
The shock of the round - and indeed the World Cup - came in Brighton though, where Japan fought to a historic 34-32 win over Pool b favourites and two-time World Cup winners South Africa. The final match of the day saw France come through unscathed in their Twickenham opener with Italy.
Sunday kicked off on the South Coast once again as Samoa beat the United States, before Wales kept the points flowing in Cardiff with a comprehensive 54-9 victory over Uruguay. The final match of the day reigning champions New Zealand play out a thriller at Wembley Stadium against Argentina, with the All Blacks having to come back from a half-time deficit to win 26-16.
