Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Not sure who to support in the Rugby World Cup? Still disconsolate over the home nations’ elimination in the quarter-finals (and, ahem, the pool stage) or simply can’t bring yourself to pick a rival to cheer for?

Fear no more, for our Rugby World Cup semi-final quiz will help you decide who to back this weekend.

On Saturday, it’s an old Rugby World Cup rivalry renewed as South Africa take on the reigning world champions New Zealand in a battle of the titans. The All Blacks have looked mighty on their way to the semi-finals, and there 62-13 rout of France in the last eight certainly sent out a warning that they mean business.

But in the Springboks they meet a side that has already recovered from an early blip to look stronger than ever. Having suffered the biggest shock in World Cup history when Japan beat them 34-32 on the opening weekend, South Africa have regrouped and looked very strong in their defeat of Wales last time out.

The second semi-finals sees Argentina take on Australia to complete the all-southern hemisphere affair. The Pumas left Ireland in the wake last weekend as they powered past the match favourites 43-20 to upset the odds in the most entertaining way possible.

They meet a Wallaby side who snatched victory from the jaws of defeat after a dubious last-minute penalty saw Bernard Foley kick a match-winning penalty to knockout Scotland.

So who should you support? Take our quiz below to find out.
