Bryan Habana is a try scoring machine. In his debut World Cup, in 2007, Habana managed to rack up eight tries, matching the record set by Jonah Lomu in 1999.
Four of those came against Samoa in Paris, a 59-7 victory. He went on to score against the USA, Namibia and a double against Argentina in the semi-final of 2007, and contributed to the fall of the English in the final. While his scoring prowess is not to be denied, he did fall victim to the try of the tournament, scored by USA winger Takudzwa Ngwenya.
Habana kept up his habit of crossing the whitewash, as he scored in games against Namibia and Samoa, and aided in the victory over Wales in the Springboks opening fixture.
2011 turned out to be a poor tournament to the then Champions, as they were defeated 9-11 by Australia in the quarter-finals.
Habana remains one of the top South African forces, after ten years of service, and 106 caps. He has scored 57 tries, and is regarded highly by his teammates and coaches alike. This respect gave him three Barbarians caps in 2008 and 2009, scoring another three tries in the process. Expect to see him in this year’s World Cup.
