Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Northampton number eight Phil Dowson has been called into the England squad as injury cover for Lewis Moody, who suffered a cut to the top of his head in Bath's 6-6 draw with Harlequins yesterday.
Moody, who was making his comeback from an eye injury at The Stoop, required 10 stitches to the wound but there were no concerns immediately after the match that he would be in any doubt to face New Zealand at Twickenham on Saturday.
The Bath flanker captained England in their last three Tests and is widely expected to lead his country out against the All Blacks this weekend. Martin Johnson names his team at midday tomorrow.
Johnson does have concerns over Matt Banahan, who was pushing for a place on the bench to cover wing and outside centre but has reported back to England's training camp with a neck injury, prompting a call-up for Gloucester's James Simpson-Daniel to come in as cover.
Wasps pair Joe Worsley and Dominic Waldouck, who were also released from England's training camp to play at the weekend, both returned to Pennyhill Park carrying injuries.
With Worsley suffering a cut face and Waldouck nursing a neck injury, the Northampton flanker Tom Wood and Leicester centre Anthony Allen have also joined up with the England squad.
The versatile Wasps forward Dan Ward-Smith has also rejoined England's training camp as Simon Shaw continues to recover from a calf injury.
