Your support makes all the difference.Former Australia head coach Bob Dwyer has launched an astonishing attack on the British and Irish Lions on the eve of their tour match with the New South Wales Waratahs, accusing Warren Gatland’s side of cheating.
With just a week to go until the first Test in Brisbane, Dwyer’s comments appeared in The Australian newspaper, and there is also a taste of the Antipodean rivalry with the former World Cup winner taking a swipe at Gatland.
“We have a great game and there is massive scope for playing attractive rugby,” the 72-year-old said. “It’s not supposed to be a contest to see who can cheat the best. It’s who can play the best.
“You don’t have to be smart to cheat,” Dwyer continued. “You just have to be a cheat. After having seen the Lions in action on tour, it doesn’t come as any surprise they are coached by a New Zealander. Because they play outside the laws of the game, as every New Zealand side does.”
Dwyer targeted alleged illegal scrummaging from the front-row, highlighting that the Lions’ props are binding illegally. He also believes that the kick-offs are being screened to protect the catcher from the on-rushing defence.
The unbeaten Lions continue their tour Down Under today when they face the ‘Tahs in Sydney, which will also host the third and final Test of the 2013 series.
