Wilkinson misses out on title
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. In a poor advertisement for French rugby on Saturday night, Toulouse won the domestic title for a record 19th time, beating Jonny Wilkinson's Toulon 18-12 in a dour but ferociously-contested match at Stade de France in Paris.
The last 240 minutes of the season did not produce a try, as both Top 14 semi-finals were also decided entirely by kicks at goal. On Saturday Wilkinson landed Toulon's four penalties but was unsuccessful with two drop-goal attempts and a 50-yard penalty. Luke McAlister, a former All Black three-quarter, kicked six penalties for Toulouse.
In the Pacific, Scotland have called up the Glasgow prop Moray Low. He has set his sights on a spot in the team to face Fiji in Lautoka this weekend.
Low said: "I have to admit that having travelled three quarters of the way round the world in the last few days, I'm a bit spaced out. But if I can get a good night's sleep, my aim is to compete for a place in the team for Saturday."
