Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

London Irish wing Sailosi Tagicakibau may be ruled out of the Aviva Premiership showdown with Harlequins at Twickenham on 27 December following his red card at Toulon on Saturday. Tagicakibau will learn his fate at a European Cup rugby disciplinary hearing this week after receiving his second caution for foul play.

The Exiles' European hopes are now over after suffering their third defeat in Pool Three – their seventh game without a win. Afterwards, Irish were incensed by some of the injuries they sustained in an often brutal encounter.

Head coach Toby Booth said: "The injury rate is high in the dressing room. Bob Casey was knocked out but has come around and is OK; Chris Hala'ufia had two teeth knocked out, and Paulica Ion has a knee ligament injury."

However, Booth would have been proud of the spirit shown by his side following Tagicakibau's dismissal. Tries from Chris Malone and Alex Corbisiero in a 17-point purple period levelled the scores before the home side eventually ran riot to claim maximum points.
