Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Sale Sharks have given Australian full-back Cameron Shepherd a route into the Aviva Premiership after his proposed move to Northampton collapsed on medical grounds.
The 28-year-old struggled with groin and wrist injuries during the Super 15 season and Northampton were not convinced he could cope with the demands of the Premiership.
Sale invited Shepherd to train with them and have today announced his signing along with that of outside centre Corne Uys from Newcastle.
Director of Rugby Bryan Redpath said: "Cameron has got great pedigree. We're hoping to get him fully fit, so that he can seize the opportunity to make a big impact for this club."
Uys, 30, returns to the Premiership from relegated Newcastle, who he joined in October last year from the Free State Cheetahs.
Sharks chief executive Steve Diamond said: "We need depth among the backs to meet that challenge of the three major competitions in which we are involved, and Corne will get decent game time through the year."
