Mark Taylor, Matthew Robinson and David Weatherley each ran in a brace of tries.

Newport swiftly returned to form after losing to Cardiff with a 44-22 success over Pontypridd at Sardis Road, thanks largely to 29 points from their erstwhile Welsh fly-half Shane Howarth, who clocked up two tries, five conversions and three penalties. A haul of 17 points from his opposite number, Brett Davey, was not enough to spare Pontypridd's blushes.

Llanelli put in a strong performance to crush the bottom club Cross Keys 46-7 at Pandy Park. Mark Jones touched down twice in the opening 13 minutes and four further tries followed while Stephen Jones kicked the remaining 16 points.

Sale's director of rugby, Adrian Hadley, has given his players a vote of confidence despite being hammered by Saracens last weekend. The injured hooker Joe Clark apart, Hadley will field the same team against London Irish at the Madejski Stadium this afternoon. Saracens will be at full-strength today even though their visitors, Rotherham, are still without a win this season. Worcester maintained their 100 per cent record and opened up a six-point lead at the top of National League One after winning 40-12 at Manchester with their Tongan full-back Sateki Tuipulotu weighing in with 25 points. Their nearest challengers are Moseley, whose 38-17 victory at Otley included two tries by Roderick Martin. The defending champions Heriot's FP slipped from first to third in the BT Scotland Premiership after losing 20-10 at home to Currie. Hawick took over a the top after beating Jedforest 21-10. In the Guinness Inter-Provincial Championship, Munster got the better of Connacht 23-13.
