Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Castleford are set to unload their controversial Kiwi, Sione Faumuina, before the end of his one-year contract, with ambitious Barrow the favourites to sign him.
Although Castleford refused to comment yesterday, it is understood that they have lost patience with the player and are ready to release him.
Faumuina has had a chequered career, including a brief spell at Hull, reneging on a contract at Harlequins and a series of alcohol-related incidents at the North Queensland Cowboys.
Barrow, his likely next stop, have already signed Jamie Rooney from Wakefield and have been repeatedly linked with players of the calibre of Warrington’s Lee Briers.
* John Duffy who was man of the match in Widnes’ Northern Rail Cup final win over Barrow has been confirmed as having fractured his jaw in the defeat by Gateshead.
* Paul Cooke is doubtful for the Hull derby this Saturday. Cooke, who left Hull to join Hull KR under controversial circumstances two years ago, has a hamstring injury.
* Castleford’s second-rower, Brett Ferres, faces a possible four match ban when he faces a charge today of making a high and dangerous tackle on Salford’s Richie Myler.
* Warrington’s Richie Mathers could receive similar punishment for an alleged high tackle on Luke Robinson of Huddersfield, but Keiron Cunningham of St Helens has only been cautioned for striking Wakefield’s James Stosic in last Friday night’s defeat by the Wildcats.
Stosic has not fractured his eye-socket, as was at first feared, and is available for the derby against Castleford on Sunday.
