Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.A REMINDER that serious injuries can occur in contact sports came yesterday when Trevor Revan, the Northampton and England B prop, damaged his neck while playing for Warwickshire against Leicestershire at Rugby, writes Paul Trow.
The match, in the County Championship Second Division, was held up for 20 minutes during the second half before Revan was taken to hospital in an ambulance. Fortunately, Revan, who celebrates his 29th birthday today, was discharged last night after X-rays revealed that nothing was broken.
Lancashire opened their defence of the Championship with a comfortable 29-11 over Northumberland at Fylde, Chris Saverimutto, the Waterloo scrum-half, scoring two second-half tries. Cornwall, last season's beaten finalists, owed their 15-14 win over Middlesex at Redruth to their outside-half Darren Chapman, who kicked five penalties. All the visitors' points came from their No 10, Paul Challinor, with a try and three penalties.
