From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. NICK FARR-JONES is coming out of retirement to play for Australia in the Bledisloe Cup international against New Zealand in Dunedin on Saturday week.

The 31-year-old scrum-half gave up international rugby after the Wallabies beat South Africa in Cape Town last August but has now been persuaded to join the 21-man squad as a replacement for Peter Slattery, who broke two ribs in last Sunday's 52-14 win over Tonga.

The former captain will not make a decision about his availability for the three-match home series against South Africa until after facing the All Blacks in the one-off Test. As for the forthcoming game, Australia's most capped scrum-half said: 'I've played behind this pack and I'll give them direction.'

Bob Dwyer, the Wallabies coach, said Brett Johnstone had done a fine job as Slattery's replacement against Tonga but the loss of John Eales (shoulder) and Willie Ofahengaue (knee) up front made it necessary to call on the experience of Farr-Jones.
