Rugby Union: Farr-Jones in Test return for Wallabies

NICK FARR-JONES is coming out of retirement to play for Australia in the Bledisloe Cup international against New Zealand in Dunedin on Saturday week.

The 31-year-old scrum-half gave up international rugby after the Wallabies beat South Africa in Cape Town last August but has now been persuaded to join the 21-man squad as a replacement for Peter Slattery, who broke two ribs in last Sunday's 52-14 win over Tonga.

The former captain will not make a decision about his availability for the three-match home series against South Africa until after facing the All Blacks in the one-off Test. As for the forthcoming game, Australia's most capped scrum-half said: 'I've played behind this pack and I'll give them direction.'

Bob Dwyer, the Wallabies coach, said Brett Johnstone had done a fine job as Slattery's replacement against Tonga but the loss of John Eales (shoulder) and Willie Ofahengaue (knee) up front made it necessary to call on the experience of Farr-Jones.
