Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

NEW ZEALAND overcame an indifferent start to beat Orange Free State in an ill-tempered match in Bloemfontein yesterday.
The home side, one of the top four provinces in South Africa, had the best of the first half and led 11-10 at the interval after running in the first try conceded by the tourists on the tour.
However, as the second half wore on, the superior fitness of the All Blacks told and they dominated the loose with a superb display of mauling.
The All Blacks scored their first try after 30 minutes when wing Va'aiga Tuigamala burst through Free State's defence. He handed on to Andy Earl, who went over under the posts with most of the pack helping him on.
After going behind just before the break from Helgard Muller's try, the All Blacks recovered immediately after the break, lock forward Blair Larsen storming through the opposing forwards to set up a try for Jones. They sealed victory with two tries in the last 10 minutes after errors by the full- back, Eben von Gericke.
