From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

WIGAN kept up the pressure at the top of the Super League as they handed Hull their sixth successive defeat, 38-16, yesterday.

This was a harsh lesson for Hull who, despite tremendous effort, did not have the class to trouble a competent Wigan side.

Tries by Neil Cowie and Simon Haughton gave Wigan a 12-0 lead after 17 minutes. It was an uphill battle for Hull from that point.

Meanwhile Huddersfield's inspirational captain Danny Russell fired them to a 28-6 win over out-of-sorts Warrington, their first Super League victory of the season, at the eighth attempt.

Garry Schofield's men recovered after falling behind to Jon Roper's early touchdown.

Huddersfield replied through Neil Harmon and Craig Weston and continued where they had left off after the break.

Substitute Paul Cook scored the fifth Giants try in the closing seconds to seal the points.
