Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

JOHN BENTLEY will leave the ranks of the game's one-cap wonders in Carcassone on Sunday when he returns to Great Britain's side to play France, writes Dave Hadfield.

The Halifax winger, then with Leeds, played on the left flank, scoring a try in a 30-12 victory in Perpignan two years ago. He has been named on the right wing after a season during which he has recaptured his best form for the club side coached by the Great Britain coach, Malcolm Reilly.

The League's leading try-scorer, St John Ellis of Castleford, twice used as a substitute against the French in 1991, will once more be on the bench, alongside the only uncapped player in the squad, Barrie- Jon Mather of Wigan

Another player with only one cap to his name, Steve Molloy of Featherstone Rovers, is in the front row. The other prop is Lee Crooks, who wins his 19th cap after an 18- month absence that seemed to mark the end of his international career.

Graham Steadman returns at full- back for the injured Jonathan Davies and Lee Jackson, of Sheffield Eagles, replaces Martin Dermott, one of Wigan's three Test front-row regulars who miss the match.

GREAT BRITAIN (v France, Carcassonne, Sunday): Steadman (Castleford); Bentley (Halifax), Connolly (Wigan), Newlove (Bradford Northern), Offiah (Wigan); Schofield (Leeds, capt), Edwards (Wigan); Crooks (Castleford), Jackson (Sheffield Eagles), Molloy (Featherstone Rovers), Farrell (Wigan), Fairbank (Bradford Northern), Joynt (St Helens). Substitutes: St John Ellis (Castleford), Moriarty (Widnes), Powell (Sheffield Eagles), Mather (Wigan). Travelling

reserves: Ford (Castleford), Cassidy (Wigan).
