Devereux, the scorer of two spectacular tries against the Kiwis, turned goalkicker, scoring four goals from six attempts as Widnes, who led 8-6 at the break, took control in the second half.
Rod Howe scored after 46 minutes and then the Hume brothers, David and Paul, put the finishing touches to powerful breaks by Esene Faimalo and Adrian Hadley.
Dave Watson, the New Zealand Test full-back, scored two tries in Bradford Northern's 44-24 win over Salford which keeps them at the top of the table. Paul Newlove, Watson's team-mate and international rival 24 hours earlier, also scored a try.
Halifax struggled to overcome Hull KR despite an impressive start of three tries in the first 21 minutes. Gary Lord, John Bentley and Graeme Hallas all went over, but Hull KR stayed in touch until early in the second half before a further try from Mark Preston and Paul Bishop's kicking secured victory.
Mark Gamson scored a last minute try to give Sheffield Eagles an 18-15 win over Hull and their first success at home this season. Hull looked set for victory when they came back from 13-0 down and led through Steve McNamara's drop goal with two minutes left.
Wakefield Trinity also had to endure a tense finish before defeating Oldham 22-21. Wakefield had a five- point cushion going into the closing stages, but the visitors missed a goal after Paul Topping's second try had taken them to within one point.
