despite conceding a try to Darryl Powell, his 100th, after just 42 seconds. After that, the home side were left trailing, with Davies scoring two tries and kicking six goals, writes Richard Wetherell.
Bradford are second - with the same number of points - thanks to their 36-28 win over Leeds played at Valley Parade. They were 12 points down after 10 minutes and 26-18 behind 16 minutes into the second half.
Leeds, whose various talents and results remain frustratingly unmarried, couldn't hold on and fell foul of two former players. Paul Dixon put Bradford 28-26 ahead, and after a exchange of penalties Roy Powell scored with three
minutes remaining.
Hull overtook Leeds with their first away win for 13 months, even if it was against Leigh, the bottom club. Leigh were ahead 7-6 at half-time but tries from Jeff Doyle and a second by Richard Gay took the visitors clear.
Castleford remain three points behind the leaders after a comfortable 34-10 win against Wakefield Trinity. They scored seven tries, including three in a 12-minute burst and were 24 points up before Wakefield scored.
Widnes kept up their winning ways, 32-10 at Hull KR. Their fifth succesive victory started early when John Devereux scored after 48 seconds, bursting through three tackles. Paul Moriarty scored a try on his comeback from injury.
