Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Wigan, the title-holders for the last five years, head the table on points difference from Leeds, Bradford and Castleford, who also have 100 per cent records.
Martin Offiah brought up his century of tries for Wigan as the champions recorded a 58-10 win at the bottom club, Oldham. Offiah scored four of his side's 11 tries to take his tally to 102 in 91 games for Wigan, with Va'aiga Tuigamala, Shaun Edwards and Jason Robinson each touching down twice. Henry Paul, the Kiwi debutant deputising for the injured Frano Botica, kicked seven goals out of 11.
Alan Tait displayed courage as well as a touch of class as Leeds brought Doncaster down to earth in front of a record 6,000 crowd. The former Scottish rugby union international, playing his first game of the season, left the field five minutes before the interval after a nasty collision with an advertising hoarding, but returned for the start of the second half, and within 10 minutes had scored a brilliant 65-yard try after Garry Schofield's long pass.
Tony Kemp also scored a hat-trick of tries to inspire Castleford to a 48-18 victory at Hull. Kemp sparked off the points spree with two tries in 10 minutes early in the first half as Castleford dominated from start to finish.
Tries for Widnes from Frank Collier and Christian Tyrer ended Halifax's hopes of their first win at Naughton Park for 28 years.
St Helens won an 11-try contest at home to Salford, coming back from 20-12 and 26-24 down to triumph 34-28 with late tries from Sean Casey and Alan Hunte.
Sheffield, inspired by Darrel Trindall, their new Australian signing, earned their first win of the season at the expense of a disappointing Workington, scoring six tries to one in a 31-6 success.
