Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Leigh led 11-8 and Widnes looked to be heading for their first defeat since 10 January when Paul Hulme, the captain, touched down in the 71st minute and Christian Tyrer converted his third goal to seal the win.
Castleford ended a dismal run of four defeats in a row with a 36-18 victory over the bottom club, Hull Kingston Rovers. Tony Morrison opened the scoring after nine minutes. Further tries from Ellis, Steadman, Nikau, Smith and Ford and six goals from Lee Crooks completed the convincing victory. Hull KR, however, had the last word when Carl Hall ran in for his second try.
Leeds could only manage to draw 26-26 at home to Wakefield Trinity. Simon Irving, their former rugby union centre, touched down in the corner to force a draw with the last move of the match, but failed in his goal attempt.
Bradford Northern, the Challenge Cup semi-finalists, slid to their first home defeat since November. Showing little of the spirit which enabled them to halt Wigan's title race in midweek, they lost 21-8 to Warrington.
Sheffield had two players sent off as they went down 48-12 away to Salford. Bruce McGuire was dismissed for tripping after only 11 minutes. Cook was sent off for a spear tackle on Tony Howard and Salford made full use of the advantage.
