Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Wigan put successive home defeats behind them yesterday with a 44-10 win over Oldham that revives their Super League season.
Gary Connolly and Andy Johnson each scored two tries as Wigan ran in eight, while Andy Farrell converted five goals and also touched down.
Castleford remain at the bottom of the table after a 28-12 home defeat by Halifax, whose centre Martin Pearson claimed 16 points from a try and six goals. Castleford's ragged display produced little to impress the Australian coach Stuart Raper, who takes over at the club on Thursday.
In the First Division, a crowd of almost 9,000 saw Hull take a major stride towards the Super League with a 26-4 win over Huddersfield. Hull ran in four tries to one for an emphatic victory. Jason Donohue scored Hull's opening try, which was followed by three more from Glenn Liddiard, Steven Holmes and Leroy McKenzie. Mark Hewitt kicked five goals.
Huddersfield's only reply came from an opportunist try from Dean Hanger.
Alfie Goulbourne scored a hat-trick of tries for Hull KR but still ended on the losing side as Swinton triumphed 28-20 to record their second win of the season.
