ROUND-UP: Such to the fore
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Yesterday was a good day for spin bowlers hoping to impress the England selectors. Peter Such, a Test team candidate, helped Essex beat Worcestershire by 208 runs at Chelmsford.
Watched by one of the selectors, Fred Titmus, the 30-year-old off-spinner claimed 6 for 94 to finish with match figures of 12 for 178. Worcestershire resumed on 40 for 1, needing another 406 for victory, but only Tom Moody, who struck a fine 79 from 105 balls, looked comfortable.
The left-arm spinners Jimmy Hindson and Andy Afford both picked up four wickets as Nottinghamshire beat Derbyshire by 114 runs at Trent Bridge. Chasing 235, Derbyshire folded from 24 for 1 overnight to 120 all out. Kim Barnett made 37 before becoming Hindson's first victim, but only the nightwatchman Andy Cottam, with 32, stayed around.
The Northamptonshire all-rounder David Capel produced a burst of three wickets in four balls but it was not enough to stop Glamorgan completing a three-wicket victory at Cardiff. Requiring 287, Hugh Morris hit 109 and, after Capel's intervention, Darren Thomas and Tony Cottey completed the job.
