Roseberry resigns as Durham captain

Mike Roseberry resigned as Durham captain yesterday before the start of the final day's play against Glamorgan at Chester-le-Street. Durham were all out for 211 to lose by 141 runs. It was their 10th defeat and they have not won a game in 15 championship matches this season. The 29- year-old former Middlesex batsman, whose Championship average is 18.5, returned to his native county as captain at the start of last season. He said: "I have felt for some time that my own form has suffered under the pressures of leading such an inexperienced but talented team. I have come to the conclusion that it would be best for the club if I can return to something like my best form and that is why I am standing down." John Morris, the vice-captain, is averaging only 16.8, and it was announced that Simon Brown would take over for the rest of the season.
