Punters and bookmakers were amazed at the outcome to a photo-finish at Ripon yesterday. Rock Symphony got the verdict in the fourth race even though most observers had been convinced that Croft Pool, ridden by Lanfranco Dettori, had scraped home after a battle throughout the final furlong.

Even Rock Symphony's rider, Ray Cochrane, thought he had been beaten and bookmakers offered 4-1 against him, with Dettori's mount at 1-8.
