Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Is Lewis Hamilton driving into the same cul-de-sac that he found last year when his championship hopes ebbed away over the final races? His reducing points margin over rival Felipe Massa reads like the old Ted Rogers game-show – "3-2-1". Hamilton hasn't won since the German GP in July and has only one podium place in his last four races. And his appeal against demotion in the Belgian GP was thrown out.

But he remains pre-race favourite for tomorrow's street circuit GP of Singapore, at night! Drivers will practise and race under lights, with a 50 per cent chance of rain thrown into the mix. I can remember my childhood excitement when Scalextric introduced cars with lights. The public gaze will also be on Sebastian Vettel, the youngest driver to win a GP.

I'm looking for a performance from my season handicap bet, Nick Heidfeld, who has been among the most consistent drivers, with four second places and points in five other races. Heidfeld races well in the rain so the pre-qualifying odds of 40-1 at Betfred appeal – £5 each-way.

Ascot has some fine racing today but Rainbow View (best price, 4-9) and Henrythenavigator (6-4) won't make us rich when winning their Group One races, even with a £10 win double. But in the totesport.com Challenge, Flipando (£5 ew at the sponsor's 33-1) might get me my vintage Scalextric on eBay if he replicates his second to Royal Oath in last year's Hunt Cup.

*The Yanks won the Ryder Cup and Tajneed was second in the Ayr Gold Cup, returning £43. But Henrik Stenson and Ben Curtis failed to top-score while Chelsea's draw reduced profits; Rose Street was second but backed to win. Perhaps George Bush can lend me few bucks.
