From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Thanks to the subsequent achievements of Kingman, Australia, The Grey Gatsby and others, this year’s 2,000 Guineas is already being celebrated as of a special vintage, but in contrast, the fillies’ equivalent Classic is beginning to taste rather bland.

Five of the first six in the 1,000 Guineas have run since and, though some have acquitted themselves pretty well at a high level, the only win between them has come in a Nottingham maiden.

Euro Charline (4.25 Ascot), fifth at Newmarket, now has her opportunity to do her bit for the form in the Coronation Stakes this afternoon.

With just three races behind her, she was less battle-hardened than her main 1,000 Guineas rivals and yet looked a possible winner until giving best inside the last furlong. The experience will not be lost on her and I fancy she can turn the tables on runner-up Lightning Thunder.

In the King Edward VII Stakes, Snow Sky (3.45 Ascot) was a live Derby contender after winning the Lingfield trial convincingly, only to be pulled out when banging a joint.
