Your support makes all the difference.John Oxx, who already has Born To Sea among the favourites for the Qipco 2,000 Guineas, yesterday revealed Akeed Mofeed could also start off his campaign at a mile.
Oxx is considering the 2,000 Guineas Trial at Leopardstown on 15 April for both colts. If ultimately deciding to give Akeed Mofeed a conventional Derby preparation, he could switch him to the Ballysax Stakes on the same card, over 10 furlongs. For now, however, Oxx sounds disposed to leave all options open. "He has done particularly well," he said of Akeed Mofeed. "He's matured into a fine horse. It would be nice to start him off over a mile, before committing one way or another. The Trial might be a good starting point anyway, but it would kill two birds with one stone as it could also tell us what his prospects might be at a mile."
Born To Sea was second at odds-on on his final juvenile starts but Oxx explained: "He was very lame 15 minutes afterwards. But he was able to walk within a couple of days, and he's had a good winter."
