As Jamie Spencer scored in the opening race at Pontefract yesterday, Sanders trails the former champion by one.
Ridden by William Buick, Six Of Diamonds finished a short-head in front of the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Gold Hush and Sanders, but the result was amended in the stewards' room and Buick was given a one-day ban for careless riding.
In a separate hearing, Buick was hit with a 12-day ban – two days deferred for three months – after being referred to the disciplinary panel for careless riding on Qadar at Doncaster. The referral was triggered as he had been banned for a total of 24 days for interference within 12 months. He will also spend a day at the British Racing School for remedial training.
