Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Despite the cold snap both this weekend's meetings should go ahead and last Sunday's late abandonment of Tweseldown should at least ensure a top-class mixed open at the Farmers Bloodhounds at Dunthrop tomorrow.

Kingscliff, the 2003 Cheltenham Foxhunters winner, could make his return to pointing in this race but is really up against it, even if his enthusiasm has been rekindled, against the likes of Burntoakboy (12.45), the improving Little Ed and last season's Lady Dudley Cup winner Cottage River, who has shown he acts on this undulating course.

A previous outing is a big advantage at this early stage and Burntoakboy, a winner over hurdles at the Cheltenham Festival and likely to return there in March for the Foxhunters, hardly came off the bridle when making a successful pointing debut at Cottenham a fortnight ago.

The bar at today's Cornwall Hunt Club will be provided by the St Mabyn Inn, on the edge of Bodmin Moor, which has a reputation for fine ales. Flying Shuttle (2.55) caught the eye when second in a backend Dingley maiden, a big advance on his Irish form, and should pay for a few pints by winning the open maiden.

Lord Of Illusion is the form horse in the opening novice riders race, but has changed hands and looks on a downward spiral. However, Just Muckin Around (12.00) had fair form under Rules for Robert Buckler and will find this easier than handicap chases.

FIXTURES: TODAY Cornwall Hunt Club at Wadebridge. (First race 12.00). At Royal Cornwall Showground; 1m W of Town nr A39.

TOMORROW Farmers Bloodhounds at Dunthrop. (11.00). 2m NE of Chipping Camden at junc of A3400 and A361. Admission at both meetings: £10 per car and driver, plus £5 for each additional passenger.
