Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

As if to distract attention from the champion who has usurped the memory of Zarkava, the Aga Khan had a spree of winners a year after his filly produced her own outstanding Arc performance. Four Group One winners yesterday supplemented a treble on Saturday, when Varenar shocked Goldikova in the Prix de la Forêt.

Alandi completed the perfect afternoon for John Oxx, who supervises the Aga Khan's Irish string as well as Sea The Stars, with a game success in the Prix du Cadran.

The other three races were won by local trainers, Mikel Delzangles saddling Shalanaya to win the Prix de l'Opera, and Alain de Royer-Dupre producing Rosanara and Siyouni to win the juvenile prizes for fillies and colts respectively. Both seem likely to return here next spring for their relevant mile Classics.

Rosanara was ridden by Christophe Soumillon, who had astonished everyone on Saturday by his sudden return from a broken elbow.

The only British trainer to plunder a prize was Stan Moore, who won the Prix de l'Abbaye with Total Gallery – rated by Johnny Murtagh the best sprinter he has ridden since Namid, the colt's sire, won this race in 2000.
