Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

NEVILLE CALLAGHAN is preparing to take on the colts with his top two-year-old Fairy Heights. The trainer intends missing next Friday's Dewhurst Stakes to run his filly eight days later in the Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster, the last Group One race of the British Flat season.

Fairy Heights lifted Callaghan's stable back into the limelight with a length and a half defeat of Dance To The Top in the Fillies' Mile at Ascot. It was a first Group One win for the Newmarket yard.

'I am favouring the Racing Post Trophy at the moment,' the trainer said yesterday. 'I believe she will be better suited by a mile than the seven furlongs of the Dewhurst.'

Fairy Heights was one of 15 acceptors for the Racing Post Trophy at yesterday's forfeit stage. Among her chief opponents at Doncaster could be Paul Cole's Hawker Hunter, plus Bude and King's Theatre, both trained by Henry Cecil.

The deadline for supplementary entries, costing pounds 15,000, is 16 October. The acceptors are: Bude, Chickawicka, Chief Executive, Colonel Colt, Hawker Hunter, King's Theatre, Khamaseen, Obelisco, Portesham, Rainbow Heights, River Deep, Robero, Venta de Possa, Village Eagle, Fairy Heights.
