Racing: Pipe pair attract Cup cash
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.THERE was a just a hint of opposition to Jodami in the Gold Cup market yesterday as Run For Free and Miinnehoma, both trained by Martin Pipe, attracted support. Jodami eased to 11-10 from even money with Coral, while Run For Free is 10-1 (from 12-1) and Miinnehoma came in five points to 20-1.
Run For Free has not raced since finishing third, and in obvious discomfort, behind Dubacilla at Cheltenham on 29 January. He is reported to have pleased Pipe in his recent work, however. The interest in Miinnehoma, meanwhile, can be traced to the success of Smartie Express at Wincanton on Thursday - the gelding was 20 lengths behind Miinnehoma when the 1992 Sun Alliance Chase winner made a winning seasonal debut at Newbury last weekend.
Garrison Savannah, the 1991 Gold Cup winner, was yesterday declared a definite runner in Thursday's race. 'Garry's form this season has been pretty sound,' Mark Pitman, assistant to his trainer, Jenny, said. 'With hindsight, we shouldn't have run him on soft ground in the Greenalls Gold Cup. He's come right back and is absolutely bouncing now.'
There were 10 declarations for the Queen Mother Champion Chase at yesterday's five- day entry stage. David Nicholson runs both Viking Flagship and Wonder Man, with stable jockey Adrian Maguire partnering the former and Charlie Swan, the Irish champion, booked for Wonder Man.
QUEEN MOTHER CHAMPION CHASE (Cheltenham, Wednesday): Entries: Deep Sensation, Egypt Mill Prince, Force Seven, Katabatic, Remittance Man, Space Fair, Sybillin, Travado, Viking Flagship, Wonder Man.
