Racing: Jodami facing a stern test
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Jodami and Run For Free, both leading fancies for the Gold Cup, are expected to renew their rivalry in the Peter Marsh Handicap Chase at Haydock on Saturday. Party Politics, the Grand National winner, Tipping Tim and Twin Oaks may add to the contest's significance as a pointer for the Festival.
Only The Fellow (7-4) and Rushing Wild (5-1) occupy more prominent places in the ante-post Gold Cup betting than Jodami
(7-1) and Run For Free (10-1). A success for Run For Free on Saturday would be of particular merit, as the handicap will force the Welsh National winner to concede 8lb to Jodami.
Party Politics's campaign this season has been limited to one outing, when he was pulled up after making the running in the Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury. 'He is very well and I want to get a run into him next week, but only if the ground is suitable,' his trainer, Nick Gaselee, said yesterday.
Lorcan Wyer, who sustained shoulder injuries but no broken bones in a fall at Newcastle on Saturday, will be out of action until later this week but expects to be fit to partner Burgoyne at Haydock on Saturday.
