2.00: A poor race to welcome jumping back to the television screens after the summer break. ZAMIRAH was the best hurdler of these and comes from a stable that has already hit its stride.
2.35: DARK DEN, with a competitive prep race under his belt, should be able to take advantage of the 15lb he receives from Moorish, who would prefer more testing conditions.
3.10: GRANGE BRAKE improved dramatically last season once he had learned to negotiate fences properly and looks a solid bet in a race notable for the return of the 1991 Grand National winner, Seagram, who could not adjust to a life of leisure.
NEWMARKET
2.20: Go With Bo comes into this race on top of his form after three victories in his last four starts, but his progressive run has come on undulating tracks that are much sharper than Newmarket. MADLY SHARP, whom Bill Watts has always held in high regard was badly drawn when unplaced in the Ayr Silver Cup (Jato third), but on his previous start in July beat the multiple winner Jayannpee. He will strip fitter here.
2.55: The ex-French La Confederation made a winning debut at Yarmouth last month and could easily upset her rivals, many of whom prefer softer ground or longer distances than today's contest offers. DEL DEYA should have too much class, judged on her second in the Irish Champion Stakes, but has not won on firm ground since her debut last year.
3.35: With 30 going to post, it is not unreasonable to have more than one stab at backing the winner. Three that appeal are JAWAAL, Moving Arrow and Manssai. The first-named has been off the course since July, when despite finishing third in the Schweppes Golden Mile his connections were disappointed that his rider was unable to give him maximum assistance. Although now on a 12lb higher handicap mark, his earlier successes indicate he can cope with that. Moving Arrow is well handicapped and looks like a horse laid out for the race, while the lightly raced Manssai finished ahead of last Saturday's big handicap winner, Wizard King, last time. Mary Reveley saddles Mellottie, who has taken part in the last four running of this event, winning in 1991, but her best chance lies with Sweet Mignonette, another well in at the weights on her best form.
4.10: FURTHER FLIGHT has taken longer than ever to come to himself this year, but his Doncaster Cup third to Arcadian Heights last month indicated that he is ready to take this event for the fourth time. Shirley's Delight was second in the Irish Cesarewitch last weekend, but will be ill-suited by today's much faster going.
4.45: Anniversarypresent won a very strong nursery on his penultimate start, with a subsequent Group winner and runner-up among his victims, but the drop back to six furlongs here may be his undoing. MIDWICH CUCKOO was not disgraced even though last in the Mill Reef Stakes on his most recent start and is well treated on the balance of his form.
