Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

AINTREE

1.45: Land Afar was going well when falling two out in the Champion Hurdle, but is a far better performer on fast ground. Arcot, sixth in the County Hurdle at Cheltenham last time, might give him a race if in the mood, but again is uncertain to act in the mud. Not so FOR REG, who won on the heavy at Thurles last month and has Adrian Maguire to encourage him.

2.20: Viking Flagship's hard race in the Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival may catch up with

him in these conditions. Uncle Ernie could reverse Cheltenham placings with Snitton Lane, but neither is likely to peg back STORM ALERT. He gets a vital 16lb from the likely favourite.

2.55: DANOLI is proven on the going in his native Ireland and can secure a rare win for a novice in this enthralling event. Flakey Dove will run him close, but the Champion Hurdler's best form is on a faster surface. The second Irish challenger, Fortune And Fame, beat Danoli at Leopardstown in February, but Dermot Weld's runner has had injury problems.

3.50: As MASTER OATS's career extends to just nine outings, the handicapper has not had time to catch him yet and that counts for more than his lack of experience. His preference for racing prominently also counts in his favour and he can hold well-handicapped The Fellow, with Moorcroft Boy, who is a little small to be taking on these fences, and Elfast, whose stamina is unproven, filling the minor placings.

HAPPY VALLEY

12.50: With the National being screened live to punters at Happy Valley, the BBC have reciprocated by televising this contest. Compradore has recorded six of his seven wins at Happy Valley's tight track but has risen in the weights. Maraheb goes well fresh, but HAPPY GUY may have too much class for both.
